1. Google searches for bitcoin have dropped 75 percent since the beginning of 2018. Datatrak Research’s Nicholas Colas links the decline in web searches to the coin’s price rates. In an email to his clients, Colas said bitcoin needs a new narrative in order to reestablish global attention. The number of new cryptocurrency wallets has also decreased. 2. Ripple plans to donate $50 million to universities to boost blockchain adoption. The company will give the money to 17 universities, including the University of North Carolina, MIT, and the University of Pennsylvania. The money will go to researching uses for blockchain technology in an effort to create high paying jobs. The donations will be given in traditional currency, not digital coins. -CNBC

3. Officials in Missoula County, Montana will soon meet to discuss possible restrictions on new cryptocurrency mining operations. The county has seen two commercial-scale mining operations move to the area with others interested in coming. The county commissioners want to hear from the public about rising concerns over noise, the amount of energy these operations use, and how that energy consumption could affect consumers.
