Coinbase Adds Another…

Coinbase Pro has announced the listing of the second of five tokens it alluded to via blog post on November 2. It's newest addition? Basic Attention Token (BAT).

BAT is currently only available on Coinbase Pro; however, if the public listing of 0x a few weeks ago gives us any indication of Coinbase's future plans, then we expect to see BAT available to trade for all investors soon.

Which tokens will Coinbase list next? Well, the remaining three out of the original five are: Cardano (ADA), Zcash (ZEC), and Stellar Lumens (XLM). Place your bets, folks.

A Cryptocurrency Millionaire Wants to Build a Utopia in Nevada

Storey County, Nevada has only about 4,000 residents and was best known, until recently, for its history of silver mining and its modern brothels.

But now, the land has been the subject of local intrigue since a company with no history, Blockchains L.L.C., bought it for $170 million in cash this year.

The man who owns the company, a lawyer and cryptocurrency millionaire named Jeffrey Berns, has hired a staff of over 70 to create a sort of experimental community spread over about a hundred square miles, where houses, schools, and commercial districts will be built and powered by the blockchain.

"This will either be the biggest thing ever, or the most spectacular crash and burn in the history of mankind," Mr. Berns said. "I don't know which one. I believe it's the former, but either way it's going to be one hell of a ride."

Free Stellar (XLM)... What's The Catch?

Some of you may have already heard about the recent Stellar Lumens (XLM) and Blockchain (the popular wallet provider) partnership that was announced earlier this week...

The deal is, if you sign up for a free Blockchain Wallet, you will simultaneously receive $25 worth of XLM – free of charge. Plus, you will be automatically entered into additional giveaways.

Ok... but what's the catch?

Well, in order to get your FREE XLM, users must go through a KYC (know your customer) process, essentially giving up their private information.

🚀 This is something that the shills on Twitter forget to mention. If you're comfortable with this though, go get your feet wet and HODL ~100 XLM before the deal expires.

Attention: Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Hardforks on November 15th

Twice a year, the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) network hard forks as part of scheduled protocol upgrades... and the next BCH hard fork is scheduled for Nov 15, 2018. Unlike previous BCH hard forks though, there is a competing proposal that is not compatible with the original roadmap.

There is a lot going on in regards to the hardfork and much of it is very technical. We here are CoinSnacks just want our readers to be aware this is going on in less than two weeks and to keep an eye on what your favorite exchange is doing in response. Here are Coinbase's and Binance's stances.

Bitcoin's Existential Crisis and It's Archipelagos

Two philosophical articles this week that we thought complimented each other nicely:
  • 💡 Another great piece penned by Nic Carter looking at Bitcoin's huge governance problem... and why that problem makes it more interesting than any alternative.

  • 👥 Then, Tony Sheng shares a thought-propelling experiment of what it would look like if everybody was free to create and/or join the society they want to be in.

It's About Time We Look At Some Cool dApps...

Last week marked a decade since Satoshi Nakamoto posted the white paper that first introduced the idea of what would become Bitcoin. To celebrate, last week's CoinSnacks letter showed off an exciting essay covering some realistic near-future price catalysts...

This week – call it the afterparty – we wanted to expand the celebration and share a rundown of some interesting and upcoming decentralized apps (indirectly) inspired by Satoshi himself. Here's a handful worth exploring we found on Product Hunt:

  • 📷 Pixelfed is a decentralized take on Instagram
  • 👀 Blockchain Demo visually explains how the blockchain works for newbies
  • 🎨 Cryptographics lets you create and own digital art on the blockchain
  • 💰 Crumbs turns spare change into cryptocurrency, similar to Acorns
  • 🎧 Blockchain Curated turns top crypto articles into podcasts
  • 💬 Leeroy is a decentralized Twitter built on Ethereum
  • 🎲 Crypto Takeovers is a prediction-driven game on the blockchain

... And a lot more here.

Bitcoin's 'First Felon' Faces More Legal Trouble

Charlie Shrem went to prison in 2015 after he pleaded guilty to helping people buy drugs online. Now he's being sued by the Winklevoss twins.

Over the last year, he has bought two Maseratis, two powerboats, and a $2 million house in Florida, along with smaller pieces of real estate. In the world of cryptocurrencies, that might not make Mr. Shrem stand out, but he has said in recent interviews that he went to prison with almost no money.

So where did the money for the expensive toys come from?

That's what Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, who Mr. Shrem owes 5,000 Bitcoin, want to know.
