Kevin Lord joins ETC Cooperative

2nd July 2020 2019 – Vancouver, Canada – The ETC Cooperative today announced that Kevin Lord has joined the ETC Cooperative as its Community Manager. Kevin has been involved with the ETC project from the early days, and worked as Community Manager at IOHK from December 2017 to June 2020. My name is Kevin Lord, and I'm thrilled to announce that I've joined the ETC Cooperative as the new Community Manager. Though I'm excited to start my new journey, I'll first share a little about my background. I first heard about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency around 2011. A few years later I soon began learning more about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. I now have about seven incredible years of experience in the digital currency space and specialize in marketing and communications. Before joining the Co-op, I was a volunteer contributor for the ETC project. There I created and managed much of the project's social media channels. I gravitated towards ETC after watching how "The DAO" smart contract exploit was handled by ETH core developers. They chose to bail out the Dapp's investors and interest groups with a protocol level change. The DAO bailout reminded me of the 2008 financial crisis. I believe it was unethical and handled poorly. After attending the first ETC Summit in 2017, as a volunteer, I was offered a job at IOHK by CEO, Charles Hoskinson. There I served as a Community Manager, overseeing various social media platforms. While there, I strived to accelerate community growth for projects like Ethereum Classic, Cardano, and the Symphony of Blockchains. I'm excited to start my journey with the ETC Cooperative as the new Community Manager. One of my key areas of focus is to develop and execute awareness campaigns in order to improve the public's knowledge of ETC. Also, I'm eager to communicate ETC's core values and fundamentals, which many still don't seem to understand. Crypto exchange Binance and Swipe are launching a debit card. The announcement, which is only available on a cached version of the platform's Binance Card FAQ's section, states that Binance has partnered with Swipe to provide "a Card platform for Binance users." The Binance Card would enable the "real time" conversion of crypto to fiat and can be used at merchants globally. Cardholders will be able to withdraw money from ATMs, so long as they are in an area that supports cash withdrawals, Binance said. More: In April, Binance introduced its Binance Card, which can be used to shop and pay with crypto worldwide. Last month, it was reported that Binance was finalizing a deal to buy a majority stake in Swipe. THE BLOCK

The Bank of Lithuania plans to launch a pre-sale of its central bank digital currency (CBDC) July 9, which will be issued for collectible purposes only. Known as the LBCOIN, the coin will be issued and sold July 23 and will be based on the NEM blockchain. The BoL plans to sell 24,000 coins that will available in packs of six at a cost of 99 euros. Each of the coins will feature one of the 20 people who signed the country’s declaration of independence in 1918. REUTERS

Wes Levitt, head of strategy at Theta Labs, believes that YouTube and decentralized alternatives can co-exist. His comments come amid efforts by YouTube to ban crypto-related content. In April, for instance, Jason Appleton, also known as Crypto Crow, said that his YouTube channel was terminated "without warning." Levitt went on to say that the censorship of crypto content is a problem and that a decentralized platform will become a reality as more people get banned from YouTube. Since 2017, the total non-fungible token (NFT) sales have reached $100m for the first time. Representing collectibles and artwork, NFTs started gaining popularity with CryptoKitties, a blockchain game on Ethereum that lets players collect, sell, and breed virtual cats.
