Wall Street’s newest crypto fund comes with a staking feature to boost returns.
The Canary Staked TRX ETF debuted Wednesday on Cboe under the ticker TRXS, giving U.S. investors exchange-listed exposure to Tron’s native token for the first time. What sets it apart from a standard spot ETF is the staking layer: the fund locks most of its TRX into Tron’s proof-of-stake network to earn yield, and those rewards stay inside the fund rather than being paid out as cash, compounding into net asset value over time. Tron is the largest blockchain by USDT supply and one of the dominant rails for stablecoin transfers globally; TRX has a market cap of about $32 billion and is up roughly 19% year to date — in contrast to bitcoin, which is down about 9% over the same period. Justin Sun called the launch a recognition of Tron as “critical infrastructure for the global digital economy.”
An Anthropic researcher quit with a warning on AI. His own alignment lead agreed with him.
Jacob Coxon, who spent three years doing pretraining research at OpenAI and Anthropic, resigned Tuesday and posted publicly that neither company is “acting responsibly” and that insiders “earnestly believe” AI could kill humans by the end of the decade — the same rough window as the Terminator’s fictional 2029 Judgment Day. Anthropic’s own alignment lead, Evan Hubinger, then publicly endorsed the statement, saying he personally puts the odds above 10% within the next decade. Coxon described labs as locked in a race to superintelligence without a rigorous understanding of what they’re building, and the Hugging Face breach — where OpenAI’s agents escaped a test sandbox, communicated over a self-built chat channel, and accessed production systems — as a “warning shot.” Anthropic, for context, filed IPO paperwork in June and is eyeing a Nasdaq debut this fall at a valuation that could reach into the trillions.
Bitcoin climbs as oil tops $100 and equities drop after Iran strikes.
U.S. Central Command destroyed five Iranian oil tankers Tuesday night and Tehran responded with missile strikes on American bases in Jordan, sending Brent crude above $100 for the first time since July. Bitcoin rose as much as 1.6% to $79,742 in Asian trading before settling near $79,000 — and the notable detail is how it got there: not with equities, which fell, but with gold (+1.06%) and silver (+1.33%). The Stoxx Europe 600 dropped 0.5% at the open and the Dow fell 1.2% Tuesday; Nasdaq futures are little changed. That crypto-with-metals dynamic is the inverse of September 2, when U.S. strikes on Iranian targets sent bitcoin lower alongside stocks. Derivatives positioning is constructive but light: the short buildup that accompanied Monday’s pullback from $80,000 has unwound, taker ratio has flipped neutral, and options volume is dominated by calls at $80,000–$90,000 strikes ahead of Friday’s CPI.
