Speaking at Bitcoin 2026 in Las Vegas, American Bitcoin co-founder Eric Trump declared that the last six months represent a turning point for the asset — and that its best days are happening now, not ahead. "What bitcoin has done in the last six months relative to the previous three years is transformational," he said. Trump cited the convergence of record ETF launches, major corporate treasuries, and banks like Charles Schwab and Morgan Stanley now offering bitcoin exposure to clients — including bitcoin-backed mortgages — as proof that Wall Street has fully changed its stance. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noted that bitcoin ETFs have become among the most successful product launches in the instrument's history. Trump also disclosed that the U.S. government holds 300,000 BTC and has no plans to sell, and that American Bitcoin is mining and holding every coin it produces. "We are compressing bitcoin," he said. "There is a limited supply."

The Fed holds rates today at 99% probability per CME FedWatch — the decision itself is not the event. What matters is whether Powell’s press conference signals any openness to H2 rate cuts despite record-low consumer sentiment and surging inflation expectations. A dovish lean hands BTC a clear path to $80,000; anything hawkish or non-committal extends the range. Separately, the UAE announced Tuesday it is leaving OPEC and OPEC+ — the most significant break in the oil cartel’s structure in years. If the UAE pumps freely, global supply rises and Brent could ease from $109, reducing the inflation drag that has capped every BTC breakout attempt this month. Marex flags this as “the big macro curveball”: energy politics may end up mattering more for risk assets this week than anything Powell says.
Institutional money is coming for bitcoin. Adam Back says it moves slower than you think.
Blockstream CEO Adam Back — an early Bitcoin contributor recently tipped by the New York Times as a candidate for Satoshi Nakamoto, which he denies — says the market is miscalculating the pace of institutional adoption. When BlackRock recommends a 2–4% portfolio allocation to bitcoin, he told CoinDesk, the fund managers managing that capital haven’t actually done it yet. A full institutional build-up, he estimates, could take a year to 18 months. The bull case isn’t wrong, just early: Strategy’s recurring purchases via its Stretch preferred stock, sovereign wealth fund entries, and new ETF flows will “eventually overwhelm the sellers” — but not overnight. On quantum risk, Back adds that institutions are more likely than retail to take tail risks seriously and are already asking whether it’s covered, even if the timeline is a decade away.
