 Square launched a $5M BTC fund to promote financial inclusion. The “Bitcoin Endowment” will provide grants to improve access to crypto and other fintech among minority communities. More: - Square stated that bitcoin provides an opportunity to overcome longstanding discrimination in the financial sectors.
- The company selected Black Bitcoin Billionaires as the first recipient of funds from the Bitcoin Endowment.
- The fund also contributed $25M to Netflix's Black Economic Development fund, and $10M to the Entrepreneurs of Color fund
- Square has $240M in BTC in its corporate treasury, providing the earning interest that made the Bitcoin Endowment possible.

Gemini acquired startup Shard X for an undisclosed amount. The announcement stated that Shard X’s multi-party computation (MPC) would further transfer speeds and usability of the Gemini platform. More: - MPC is a method for security and encryption that breaks private keys into shards, preventing the possibility of a single point of failure.
- This deal was Gemini’s third acquisition, following its purchase of Nifty Gateway in 2019 and Blockrize in January.
- Gemini has increased its investments in crypto startups recently, with a new fund aimed at backing early-stage crypto projects.
