Throwback Thursday: Bithumb hack On June 19, 2018, South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb was hacked, resulting in the loss of $30 million worth of XRP. At the time, it was reported to be one of the biggest hacks of the year. Responding to the events, Bithumb said its deposit and withdrawal services would be stopped to ensure the security of its platform. Prior to the hack, Bithumb conducted a security enhancement checkup due to an increase in "the number of unauthorized access attempts" on the exchange. At the same time, Bithumb had started moving its users' assets into a cold wallet to a more secure offline environment. After announcing the hack, Bithumb said that it would refund victims using its own reserves. | |
