3. A number of leading economic minds criticized bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market at the 2019 World Economic Forum currently being held in Davos, Switzerland. Dan Schulman, the CEO of PayPal, said there are currently few retailers that accept bitcoin, making the idea of mass merchant adoption seem far away. Like many others, he said crypto is not a currency, but a store of value that lacks a practical application. While it makes sense Schulman would be critical of digital currency, Jeff Schumacher, founder of BCG Digital Ventures, said he believes bitcoin will one day hit zero. "It is not based on anything." –CCN

4. A strain of ransomware has targeted bitcoin mining rigs in China. Named hAnt, the ransomware first appeared in August, but a new wave of infections began hitting mining farms earlier this month. The majority of the rigs use Antminer Sg and Tg devices, but there have also been reports of hAnt infecting Antminer L3 rigs, which mine litecoin, as well. Once hAnt infects a rig, it immediately locks the device and prevents it from mining any new currency until a ransom is paid. –ZDNET
