Binance is reportedly set to acquire CoinMarketCap. According to people familiar with the matter, the deal could be worth as much as $400 million, reports The Block. The deal is expected to be announced at the end of the week, and when completed, would represent one of the biggest acquisitions in the industry. In a letter published to the Binance community at the beginning of the year, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao said that the company had made nine full acquisitions in 2019, with only a small number of them being publicly announced. He went on to say: There are always a number of deals being discussed at any given time, and there are 2 that I am very excited about specifically. We will announce them in due time. It could be that the deal with CoinMarketCap was one of those deals he was talking about. The people familiar with the matter said it was because of CoinMarketCap's ability to drive a significant amount of traffic that was one of the reasons behind the acquisition. The announcement comes as the crypto exchange said today that it is launching a crypto-to-crypto exchange in South Korea next week. It will be open for registration and deposits on April 2, trading will commence April 4, while withdrawals will begin April 9. According to Binance, the new platform Binance KR will support the Binance KRW (BKRW) stablecoin at launch. It will support open trading for Bitcoin, Ether, Binance coin, and BKRW. This will soon to be followed by Tether (USDT) and Binance USD stablecoins. THE BLOCK
Coinbase's retail customers bought Bitcoin the most during March crash. In a report published by the crypto exchange, it found that rather than selling crypto assets during the market turmoil experienced this month, its retail customers were buying, and Bitcoin was the favorite. The report went on to say: Our customers typically buy 60% more than they sell but during the crash this jumped to 67%, taking advantage of market troughs and representing strong demand for crypto assets even during extreme volatility. The platform went on to note that Bitcoin was the most popular, with more than half of both total deposits and trades. Ether and XRP came in as second and third. While Coinbase highlighted that it's natural for humans to second guess their convictions, it pointed out that "Bitcoin was created for a moment like this." The platform added: Inscribed into its Genesis Block is the phrase “Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks,” an homage to the government bailouts of 2008 and the last great financial crisis. The call out is a subtle nod to the need for a sovereign form of money without any central intermediary. COINBASE/MEDIUM

GOOD NEWS: Libra rival Celo announces $700,000 grant fund for 13 companies. The open-source payments network has announced those who are to receive its first round of grant funding. (The grants are to be provided to those who want to build on top of the network, contribute to the network's development, and build the Celo community.) These include the likes of Philippine-based digital gift card platform Beam & Co., payments platform Pay with Mon, and The Blockchain for Social Impact Coalition. In a news release, Celo said that it had chosen those who "provide building blocks to help strengthen the Celo protocol, provide more access to the financially underserved, and develop programs to help educate and nurture the Celo community." So far, Celo has received over 50 grant proposals from teams based in 16 countries and will continue to receive them until May 15. Celo announced its grant funding program in December. Earlier this month, the network revealed its founding 50 members of its "Alliance for Prosperity," some of which form part of the Libra Association. COINTELEGRAPH
