Crypto Masterclass, featuring Silvio Micali.
Our Crypto Masterclass feature showcases a well-known thought leader or expert in the crypto space. Today, I'm featuring MIT professor, cryptographer, and Alogrand founder Silvio Micali, who focuses on how the blockchain can help with the breakdown of public trust during COVID-19 and beyond.
"Trust between citizens and their governments is key for functioning societies."
Micali says that allowing people access to anonymized datasets that they help build is an important way of building trust. In his view, it shows that there are "no gatekeepers" and that everyone can be confident that anyone checking the information will come up with the same information as everybody else. He goes on to say that the blockchain can also assist with contact tracing during the pandemic. By having public access to the information, everyone can see the same data and can be assured that no one is fabricating the information.
