Achievements of August 2020

Hey there, it's time for our monthly Lisk Achievement Series. At the end of each month, we summarize the top news, updates, and achievements of Lisk in a single blog post. Read the entire blog post here One More Closed Epic of Lisk SDK 5.0.0 So far, 12 epics of Lisk SDK 5.0.0 were closed. One of them was closed in August 2020. With that, two epics remain to be implemented in this version. The epic `Create monitoring plugin` will not be implemented with the Lisk SDK 5.0.0 anymore, we will include it back into our planning at a later time again. Together with the implementation of the Network Longevity roadmap objectives, it was noticed that certain parts of the code could be refactored and missing unit/integration tests could be added with the scope of better code coverage. The 12th epic of Lisk SDK version 5.0.0 had the purpose of collecting code refactoring and unit/integration test improvements into one place. Introducing On-Chain Architecture to Lisk SDK 5.0.0 We identified an improvement that was added to the on-going development of Lisk SDK 5.0.0 and which will contribute to a further modularization of our code base, offering more flexibility to the developer. The on-chain architecture splits current block processing, transaction processing and schema definition into four separate modules which are: sequence, token, keys, and DPoS.  The sequence module will be responsible for managing nonces of transactions. The token module will be responsible for managing the balance as well as the regular transaction asset.  The key module will be responsible for multi-signature groups, signature validation, and the multi-signature group registration asset.  The DPoS module will be responsible for managing all consensus properties, selection of validators as well as the delegate registration, voting, unlocking, and punishment assets. Help us spread the word! Lisk 1.27.0 for Desktop Released This month we also released Lisk 1.27.0 for Desktop. This version introduces a new user-friendly design and bug fixes to improve the product quality. We have also published a blog post to present the most recent design improvements and the reasoning behind each of them. Some of the changes we made in this version include the unified navigation menu, the navigation bars for all screen sizes, the option to start in guest mode, a better use of modal screens, and a more visible network switcher. Introducing Lisk Codec In August, we published a blog post which includes an introduction to Lisk Codec and the improvements it will bring to the developer experience of the Lisk SDK 5.0.0. The blog post covers the reason why serialization is needed and how it has been implemented up to now in Lisk. Moreover, the article includes an introduction to Lisk Codec and its benefits, such as the reduction of network communications and the decrease of required blockchain space.  On Friday, August 21st, we hosted a live AMA on Lisk.chat where Maxim Gagnebin (Research Scientist) answered questions from the community members about Lisk Codec and serialization in general.  Help us spread the word! Building the Recurring Payments Project Jurre from the Moosty Team published on the Lisk blog a post about the Recurring Payments project as part of their participation in the Lisk Builders program.  Their project "Recurring Payments" represents a proof of concept blockchain application that supports recurring payments between two parties. The proof of concept shows a simple technical solution utilizing custom transactions to build a deterministic contract between two parties. The accounts, the contract, and all actions are stored on the blockchain. Help us spread the word! Launched New Lisk Foundation Website The Lisk Foundation was established in 2016 in Zug, Switzerland and it is the non-profit entity overseeing the development and promotion of the Lisk project. In August, we launched a dedicated website for the Lisk Foundation that includes information about the Foundation Council, the legal and financial team supporting the Council, the contractors and the memberships of the Foundation.
