An update on the XRP litigation: Judge Netburn recently granted XRP's discovery motion to access the emails and other communications of 19 past and present SEC employees. More: Ripple’s request for the SEC to produce such information is an attempt to find any communications expressing the SEC’s interpretation or views on cryptocurrencies.  Ripple’s co-founder, Brad Garlinghouse, suggested that the discovery evidence would prove that the SEC thought XRP was similar or the same as Bitcoin or Ethereum. Bitcoin and Ethereum have never officially been considered a security in the U.S., which raises the question of why XRP has been treated differently. Garlinghouse and other Ripple partners are hopeful that this discovery will help resolve the civil and possibly criminal liability associated with the SEC lawsuit. XRP hit a three-year high yesterday despite the ongoing legal issues.

Seven-time Super Bowl champion and GOAT quarterback Tom Brady is reportedly launching an NFT platform called Autograph. In an interview with CNN, Rosenblatt described Autograph as a platform for the “world’s most iconic names and brands” to work together with “best in class digital artists” for ground-breaking experiences launched to communities, fans, and collectors. More: Brady will sit alongside former Intermix Media CEO Richard Rosenblatt as co chairs for the company. Rosenblatt’s 23-year-old son, Dillon Rosenblatt, will be CEO. Board members and advisors to Autograph include a diverse group of well-established tech and sports community members. The board consists of Apple SVP Eddy Cue, DraftKings CEO Jason Robins, Spotify CCO Dawn Ostroff, and part-owner of the Golden State Warriors Peter Guber, among others.  Brady is the latest NFL player to join in on the NFT boom, following NFT releases from his teammate Rob Gronkowski, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and the Manning brothers.

🍋 FRESH FUNDING 🍋 Plaid, fintech API provider: $425M. The Series D funding round was co-led by Altimeter Capital and Silver Lake, both new investors in the project. More: The funding round comes just after the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust lawsuit prevented an acquisition of Plaid by Visa. The latest funding gives Plaid a post-money valuation of $13.4B. Plaid anticipates using the fundraised proceeds to further expand their platform to the U.K. and Europe. MobileCoin (MOB), private payment systems: $11M. The Series A funding round was backed by Future Ventures and General Catalyst. More: MobileCoin is working with encrypted messaging service Signal to beta test MOB as the cryptocurrency for its new “Signal Payments” feature.  Beta testing is currently only available in the U.K., but Signal plans to expand into the U.S. if feedback from the beta is positive. MOB reached an all time high of $73.45 yesterday and is currently trading at $40.14.
