Sky Mavis' Ronin network was exploited for $625M using hacked private keys. The hackers then shorted AXS (Axie Infinity) and RON (Ronin), knowing that the news would cause the token to plummet. More: - The Ronin blockchain underlies the popular play-to-earn blockchain-based game Axie Infinity.
- The Ronin chain consisted of nine validator nodes, so in order to recognize the 173,600 ETH and 25.5M USDC withdrawal, the attacker would need control over five of the nodes.
- The attackers were able to obtain the private keys of Sky Mavis' four Ronin Validators as well as a third-party validator run by Axie DAO.
- Sky Mavis plans to reimburse the funds.

A message from PIPE “This is going to fundamentally change how we raise money and how we scale…” Founders and business owners face one challenge after another as they grow. One of the biggest is finding a way to finance growth without giving away too much equity, taking on restrictive covenants, or being pulled away from the business to fundraise. When MUD\WTR co-founders Paul DeJoe and Shane Heath saw 400% growth in their first year, they couldn’t spend all their time raising rounds to finance that rapid growth: “Being able to Pipe millions of dollars before we went to fundraise not only allowed us to focus and not worry about day-to-day cash, but it also showed investors that we had access to this capital anytime we wanted,” says DeJoe.
