The U.S. released a photo of the member it believes works under the alias "Target." More: - Conti was an infamous hacker group that was known for breaching governments and institutions around the world.
- The group was shut off soon after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.
- While Conti had promised to support Russia, a data leak that exposed a lot of private information caused the hacker group to disband.
- The group's work has already been carried on by numerous offshoot groups that have either used the same threat vectors or have updated the ones Conti used.
- Researchers believe that the group managed to collect over $2B during its three-year existence.

Meta is testing end-to-end encryption for Messenger. The move comes as the company has tried to add privacy features after a long period of scandals that have plagued the company's image. More: - Meta will present the feature as a default for some select users, while a wider rollout is expected in the upcoming months.
- The company recently also presented encrypted chat backups for WhatsApp, the messaging platform Meta owns.
- Encrypted backups are also being built for Messenger, but the feature is called Secure Storage.
- While WhatsApp is currently the only Meta-owned app that is entirely end-to-end encrypted for all of its users, Messenger is expected to follow suit in 2023.

Several Xiaomi phone models have been found to be vulnerable to hacks. The vulnerabilities may affect over 1 billion people worldwide. More: - The flaws were found in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T and Redmi Note 11 models.

The NHS may need another month to recover from the recent cyber attack it got hit with. This is due to one of its partner companies, Advanced, being breached severely. More: - The company runs several important software programs for the NHS.
- Among the programs that got breached was NHS 111, an online service where patients can call and ask for urgent medical advice.
- Threat actors managed to cause hours of delays in patient care, while the waiting time for appointments has increased dramatically.
- Advanced recently admitted that the breach was severe, as the U.K. government had previously tried to downplay the hack's importance.
- The company stated that it is currently working with Microsoft and other partners to investigate this hacking campaign.

Cybersecurity startup Spin Technology has raised a $16M Series A funding round. The A round was led by A16z. More: - The company aims to be a one-stop shop for data protection.
- Spin is a SaaS platform, making it enticing for investors due to its potential recurring customer base and higher profit margins, especially since cybersecurity companies have raised record amounts of money since the war in Ukraine began.
- Spin offers companies automatic ransomware incident response. This means that companies that are breached will be able to counter-act within two hours of the breach. By doing so, they improve their chances of data retrieval and also reduce costs by up to 90%, according to the company.
- The company also leverages AI to offer other solutions such as automated risk assessments, browser extensions, an all-in-one cybersecurity risks dashboard, etc.
