Russia has officially banned foreign messaging apps, such as Discord, Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business, Snapchat, and WhatsApp, for government officials. The law came into force yesterday. More: - The official list of the banned apps is:

- Snapchat,
- Telegram,
- Threema,
- Viber,
- WhatsApp,
- and WeChat.
- The restrictions are being placed on government officials, likely to minimize the risk of having sensitive information regarding the war in Ukraine leak to Ukraine and its allies.
- Other popular apps such as Zoom and Signal have not been banned by the Russian government so far.
Zoom Out: - This is not the first time the Russian government has banned different apps. Telegram was previously banned in Russia for a short period in 2018.
- Russia banned Facebook and Instagram last March after claiming that the apps were platforms that incited violence against Russian soldiers.

Hackers have stolen the data of over 550,000 gun owners from a U.S.-based gun auction website. The FBI is investigating the case. More: - The breached website is "GunAuction.com."
- The FBI has contacted the company, and the case is currently being investigated.
- Hackers have stolen information such as:
- emails,
- home addresses,
- telephone numbers,
- passwords, etc.
- The breach was tracked by an anonymous security researcher who found that an unprotected server contained the data.
- Researchers went on to attempt to contact 160 users from the list. Some users confirmed that their data was accurate, although others had invalid email addresses or disconnected phone numbers, calling into question how recent the data is.
- The company claims that there is no proof that the hackers have accessed financial information.

Cisco has fixed an IP phone security flaw with a 9.8 risk rating, enabling hackers to gain remote unauthorized access. The bug is tracked as CVE-2023-20078. More: - The bug affected IP Phone products from the 7800, 7900, and 8800 Series.
- In addition to this flaw, Cisco also patched a high-severity DoS flaw that affected the aforementioned devices and the Cisco Unified IP Conference Phone 8831 and Unified IP Phone 7900 Series.
- This flaw, which is tracked as CVE-2023-20079, will not be patched by Cisco because Conference Phone 8831 and Unified IP Phone 7900 Series are at end-of-life.
Zoom Out: - Cisco has been targeted by threat actors numerous times in the past. In August 2022, the Yanluowang ransomware group stole over 2GB of data from the company. Researchers believed that other groups might have been involved.

Hackers are targeting Trezor crypto wallets with a phishing campaign that compromises people via their email or phone number. The company has warned its users not to answer phone calls and text messages. More: - Trezor provides hardware-based wallets for users to store their cryptocurrency.
- Although cold wallets are considered more secure than hot wallets, if users are convinced to give out their recovery seed combination, hackers could easily steal their funds.
- Seed recovery combinations are usually 12- or 24-character passwords that serve as backup code in case users forget their original password.
- The company stated that it's technically impossible to assess the scope of the data breach accurately and that it assumes that all users' assets are currently at risk.
Zoom Out: - Only a few days ago, over 2,000 private keys were stolen after Edge Wallet's digital infrastructure got breached. Some users lost all of their Bitcoin holdings.
- Hackers stole over $3.8B worth of cryptocurrency in 2022, breaking the previous record.
