Cardano Foundation Newsletter - 13th July 2018

Hi contacto1745.send-mail@blogger.com,

Welcome to the latest Cardano Foundation newsletter. We can't believe we are halfway through the year and this is already our thirteenth newsletter of 2018, all of which we hope have helped to keep you updated on our latest news.

In this newsletter, we bring you updates on the roadmap, the various workstreams within the project and the latest Cardano meetups happening around the world.

Cardano Roadmap Update

Here is a summary of the updates and progress from the latest roadmap:

  • Marlowe - IOHK is developing a new financial domain specific language (DSL) on the blockchain. This new language will provide a capability for business users to prove financial smart contracts will do what they are expected to do.
  • New Wallet Backend - This new wallet update will be available with improved quality and performance. This implementation will form a basis for new features, including hardware wallets, multi-signature accounts, mobile wallets and improved application programming interfaces (APIs) for third parties to integrate with Cardano.
  • Project Progress - Progress was made across 9 other projects within the roadmap, such as Light Client Support, Efficient Blockchain Storage and IELE Virtual Machine V1. To see a complete list of updated items, head to the roadmap!

Upcoming Cardano Meetups

In June, Cardano Foundation hosted three meetups and we were humbled by how amazing and supportive our community is. We want to keep this momentum rolling so be sure to get in touch if you are interested in organizing a Cardano meetup in your local area (just email us at info@cardanofoundation.org).

Here are a few of the Cardano meetup groups that have recently kicked off:

Krakow
Vietnam
Korea

Cardano Foundation will also be attending this month's Netherlands community meetup being held in Rotterdam. We are happy to announce that special guest speaker, Edsko de Vries, consultant for IOHK from Well-Typed, will be presenting on wallet specification and coin selection. We look forward to meeting our Dutch community!

Community Questions

This month's community question comes from the surprise "Ask-Me-Anything" (AMA) hosted by Charles Hoskinson, CEO of IOHK. In the recorded livestream, Charles answered 26 live questions posed by the community.

For the newsletter, we have chosen one of the questions:

How many languages will Cardano support for smart contracts and DApps to be written in?

Answer: there is no specific number of languages that will be supported. This is because of the various research streams ongoing at IOHK that will allow a multitude of languages to be compatible for the Cardano protocol. This includes their partnership with Runtime Verification to construct Virtual Machines and a universal compilation target that will 'translate' other programming languages into one that can be integrated into Cardano. Charles also provided insight into the problems the crypto-space currently faces when it comes to computation and how IOHK looks to solve them.
