Loopring (LRC) surged 19% as Ethereum scaling solutions continue to defy the general market downturn. Projects using ZK rollup scaling solutions like Polygon (MATIC) and Curve DAO (CRV) have also seen growth over the past 24 hours. What are ZK Rollups? - Zero-knowledge rollups (ZK rollups) are Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solutions that validate on-chain data off-chain.
- By computing validity off-chain, ZK rollups can validate blocks of transactions in a faster, more efficient manner.
- Because this solution requires verifying proofs off-chain, one disadvantage of the process is that ZK rollup solutions cannot execute smart contracts.
- Other scaling solutions, like plasma or optimistic rollups, also offer their own unique advantages and disadvantages. For more information on different processes, check out Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s "An Incomplete Guide to Rollups."
