Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis released its 2021 NFT Market Report. The report aggregates a year's worth of market and trade data from OpenSea. NFT Investor Performance: - Investors who receive NFTs from a whitelist are profitable 76% of the time, and secondary buyers of the whitelisted NFT are profitable 65% of the time.
- Investors who purchase NFTs on the mint date only have a 29% chance of returning a profit.
- The top 30% of OpenSea addresses account for 107% of all realized gains on NFT resales (meaning the bottom 70% combined to lose money), and 87% of all NFTs resold on the market.
- Around 50% of first-time listings on OpenSea occur within two days of an NFT project's initial mint.
NFT Collection Performance: - CryptoPunks were the largest NFT collection by transaction volume at over $3B.
- Mutant Ape Yacht Club had the largest single-week transaction volume in late August at over $400M despite an average weekly transaction volume below $21M.
- The average transaction size for an NFT significantly increased alongside the value of cryptocurrencies.

Craig Wright won a longstanding legal battle with Dave Kleiman’s estate over early BTC mining company W&K Information Defense Research. Wright was only required to pay $100M in compensatory damages for conversion. - Ira Kleiman sued Wright on behalf of his brother in 2013 for $36B in BTC, $126B in intellectual property, and $17B in punitive damages.
- Wright’s legal team successfully defended that Kleiman was not a business partner but a friend who helped him write the Bitcoin whitepaper.
