Canadian Markets Statistics Canada has published inflation data for the country's provinces. - November's annual inflation rate rose from the previous month in Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Manitoba from October to November.
- The inflation rate was down in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columba from October to November.
- The inflation rate was the highest in PEI at 9.7% and the lowest in Alberta at 6.6%.

European Markets European markets rose on Wednesday despite the negative sentiment in markets recently. - The Stoxx 600 was up 1.7% on the day, with all sectors rising.
- The retail sector saw the biggest gains, up 2.8%, financial stocks rose 2.5%, and mining stocks gained 2.2%.
- Puma surged 9.5% and Adidas soared 6.8% as sportswear brands saw strong gains.

Asian Markets Stocks in Asia were mixed on Thursday morning after falling on Wednesday. - Australian markets rose, following news reports that the foreign minister plans to meet with the Chinese government to ask Beijing to lift trade sanctions.
- Indonesia said it plans to ban bauxite exports as of June 2023.
- India's central bank has raised concerns about the impact of private cryptocurrencies on its financial system.

Commodities Oil prices were up on Wednesday, with new data indicating that the U.S. will add more than expected to its stockpiles. - The potential gains were limited by concerns surrounding fuel demand over the holidays due to severe winter weather that has grounded planes in Canada and the U.S.
- Brent rose 2.76% on the day and US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 2.7%.
- The U.S. Energy Information Administration said that its crude inventories were down 5.89 million barrels last week, more than the 1.66 million estimated.

Currency Exchange Rates The Japanese Yen was very volatile on Wednesday, the day after the Bank of Japan unexpectedly changed its monetary policy. - The Yen was up as much as 4% on the day against the U.S. Dollar but finished down by 0.4%.
- The Canadian Dollar stayed aligned with the USD but has also been volatile, with investors unsure about whether the Bank of Canada will continue hiking interest rates aggressively.
- The U.S. Dollar is up nearly 9% so far this year.
