1. Bitmain recently completed its series B funding round, which values the cryptocurrency mining company at $12 billion. The round raised an additional $400 million for Bitmain, which may be planning its own IPO soon. This round included investments from Sequoia Capital, EDBI, and Coatue, among others. 2. Podcast app Castbox has introduced a new blockchain-based platform to help content creators earn money off their shows. Called Contentbox, the app uses a micropayment plan, built on the blockchain, that allows customers to become “investors” in specific shows. “Castbox eliminates user friction and makes paid subscriptions easily accessible so publishers can generate more revenue and grow their following,” said CEO Renee Wang. –MY BROADBAND

3. A new paper from researchers at Imperial College London claims digital currencies are primed for mass adoption. The paper claims that bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will continue to grow as mainstream payment options, peaking in the next decade. The paper also argues that cryptocurrencies currently act as a store of value, one of three fundamental roles of traditional money. 4. CryptoKitties are giving back to charity. CryptoKitties formed a partnership with ACTAI Global and Ocean Elders to create “Honu,” the world’s first “sea-loving CryptoKitty.” Honu will serve as an environmental ambassador for ocean and wildlife conservation.
