Follow Friday: Paolo Ardoino
Ardoino is the CTO of digital asset trading platform Bitfinex and sister firm, stablecoin issuer Tether. Prior to joining the crypto space in 2012-2013, Ardoino was working in the traditional finance sector in London. He also had his own startup, Fincluster, which developed cloud-based financial applications for advisers, fund managers, and institutions.
His expertise lies in building scalable applications as part of computing and distributed systems. Around this time, he was still learning as much as he could about Bitcoin and experimenting with the technology.
In 2014, he had an opportunity to join Bitfinex, which he took, taking up the role of senior software developer. In this position, he was tasked with match trading engine development and platform scalability. In 2016, he moved across as CTO. In 2017, Ardoino became CTO of Tether, which is one of the biggest stablecoins by market capitalization.
Last October and November, it was reported that Bitfinex and Tether had, allegedly, manipulated the crypto market, harming traders, and benefiting themselves.
Some of Ardoino's tweets include supporting emerging technologies like the Lightning Network, an ETF rejection for Bitcoin or oil, and how stablecoins don't inflate the crypto market.
