2 | So far this year, Seattle-based startups have raised $1.1B in VC funding, per Crunchbase. What the numbers say: The sum raised so far this year is 57% lower than the amount raised during the same time last year. The recent slump is consistent with the dip seen last year compared to 2021. This dip is not exclusive to Seattle; it is a statewide phenomenon. Washington state as a whole has seen a drop in VC funding, having raised just $1.9B so far this year. However, the decline in funding in Seattle was higher than the 51% decline in VC funding seen globally. Where to see the impact: The majority of the funding, or $820M, was raked in by Series A and Series B stage startups across Washington. Seed-stage startups pulled in $281M in seed investment, which saw a comparatively modest decline of 35% YoY, lower than all other stages. Relevance: Washington state has seen just one mega funding round of over $100M, a $102M Series D funding round raised by antenna and radio-based technology maker Pivotal Commware in August. In contrast, there were 43 mega funding rounds of $100M or more in 2021 and 2022. | | |
A message from our sponsor, Axonius. | | Struggling with asset visibility and protecting your attack surface? CAASM can help. The shift to remote and hybrid work, increased use of unmanaged and IoT devices on corporate networks, and rapid adoption of SaaS apps have led SecOps teams to take a more proactive approach to cybersecurity. Enter: cyber asset attack surface management (CAASM). CAASM enables security teams to see and understand all assets in their environment through API integrations with existing tools — plus query consolidated data, identify the scope of vulnerabilities and gaps in security controls, and remediate issues.
