Taiwanese government websites have been hacked. Hackers shut down the website of the President of Taiwan with a DDoS attack as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ended a historic visit to the region. More: - The DDoS attack was tracked by researchers who noticed that traffic on the President's website was 200x more than normal. Hackers also managed to take down the websites of numerous other organizations, such as Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
- These attacks were not damaging, but they did manage to shut down some of the websites for a few hours.
- Security researchers believe that the attacks are related to Nancy Pelosi's historic visit to Taiwan.
- The territorial dispute between Taiwan and China has been the subject of much controversy. China claims the territory as its own, while Taiwan wants its independence declaration to be recognized by all world governments. The U.S. does not support an independence movement but supports the region with its military.
- In a recent interview, President Joe Biden stated that the U.S. would intervene militarily if China were to attack Taiwan. The statement caused Chinese government officials to release statements that denounced Biden's remarks.

A message from WIND RIVER Can the VxWorks real-time operating system fill your embedded system needs? A real-time operating system (RTOS) is an operating system with two key features: predictability and determinism. In an RTOS, repeated tasks are performed within a tight time boundary, while in a general-purpose operating system, this is not necessarily so. Predictability and determinism, in this case, go hand in hand: We know how long a task will take, and that it will always produce the same result. - Determinism: Repeating an input will result in the same output.
- High performance: RTOS systems are fast and responsive, often executing actions within a small fraction of the time needed by a general OS.
- Safety and security: As RTOSes are frequently used in critical systems, such as robotics or flight controllers, they must have higher security standards and more reliable safety features.
- Priority-based scheduling: Actions are scheduled according to their assigned priority; the most important tasks come first.
- Small footprint: Versus their hefty general OS counterparts, RTOSes weigh in at just a fraction of the size: Windows 10, with post-install updates, takes up approximately 20 GB. VxWorks, on the other hand, is measured in the low single-digit megabytes.
In this webinar, we'll go through some of the features of real-time operating systems that can revolutionize your embedded development process, and make sure that an RTOS is the right solution for your use-case. Watch Now | |
Robinhood has been hit with a $30M fine for failing to comply with cybersecurity regulations. The fine was announced by the New York State Department of Financial Services. More: - The company also failed to comply with money-laundering regulations, as it did not transition properly from a manual monitoring system to a more advanced automated one. Using a more advanced system was considered the only viable option due to the volume of processed transactions.
- NYSDF stated that the company broke privacy regulations when it did not have a distinct customer support phone number on its website.
- Robinhood has not stated anything regarding this topic, but it did announce that it expected to settle for $30M in an NYSDF court case back in 2020.

A large-scale Microsoft email hacking campaign has been tracked. Hackers are using phishing as a threat vector. More: - Even though it is a phishing campaign, hackers are using adversary-in-the-middle techniques to bypass multi-factor authentication, a security tool that is meant to enable users to increase their safety by confirming their log-in credentials through the main entry point. This makes this campaign more easily identifiable.
- While the Microsoft email service is used by individuals too, the threat actors are seemingly targeting only enterprises who use the service. In some cases, the business emails of executives were compromised and were later used to send further phishing emails.
- Threat actors are targeting key sectors such as fintech, lending, insurance, energy, manufacturing, and federal credit union verticals located in English-speaking countries such as the U.S., U.K, Australia, and New Zealand.
- These hackers are abusing legitimate online code editing services such as CodeSandbox and Glitch.
