Top crypto firms are adding former financial enforcement officers to bolster credibility with financial regulatory enforcement agencies. Binance US, BlockFi, and Coinbase are among the several crypto firms to use this strategic hiring move. More: - J. Christopher Giancarlo, a former chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in 2019, joined the board of directors of BlockFi.
- Brian Brooks, former acting head of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and Coinbase executive, joined Binance US to serve as the new CEO.

Venmo introduced cryptocurrencies to its platform today, allowing customers to buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrencies through the app for as little as $1. The move comes on what is known as "National Doge Day" in the crypto world, as the Dogecoin price jumped over 20% to reach $0.42, after an all-time high of $0.45 on Friday. More: - Parent company PayPal introduced the same support for cryptocurrencies last year and is now one of the biggest players in the space among other financial companies.
- Four types of cryptocurrencies are supported on Venmo: bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash.
- Venmo currently has over 70 million users in the U.S. and processed $159B in payments in 2020.
- This move will allow Venmo to compete with other peer-to-peer payment services such as Cash App, which introduced cryptocurrency transactions in 2018.

🍋 FRESH FUNDING 🍋 - Aleo, DApp development: $28M. Aleo, a blockchain startup aiming to create a "full-stack solution for zero-knowledge," raised $28M in a 16z led funding round. Participants included Placeholder, Coinbase Ventures, Galaxy Digital, Polychain Capital, Scalar Capital, Slow Ventures, Variant Capital, Balaji Srinivasan, and Ethereal Ventures, and others.
- DexGuru, DeFi/DEX: $1M. DexGuru, a decentralized exchange startup founded by Nick Sawinyh, raised $1M in a Simple Agreement for Future Tokens (SAFT) funding round. SAFT participants included Lemniscap, Divergence Ventures, Loi Luu of Kyber Network, Evgeny Yurtaev of Zerion, and several others.
- Filebase, Decentralized storage: $2M. The blockchain-enabled Amazon S3-compatible object storage startup raised $2M in its first seed funding round. The round was backed by Multicoin Capital, with additional investments from Version One Ventures and Ryan Selkis.
- Injective Protocol, DeFi/DEX: $10M. The decentralized exchange platform received funding from Mark Cuban, Pantera Capital, BlockTower, Hashed Ventures, CMS Holdings, and QCP Capital in its latest private placement token sale funding round.
- Mantl, FinTech: $40M. Mantl, a New York-based startup looking to digitize legacy system banks, raised $40M in its latest series B funding round.
- TeraBlock Exchange, DeFi/DEX: $2.4M. The beginner-friendly decentralized exchange platform received funding from AU21 Capital, Blockchain.com, Blocksync Ventures, BTX Capital, CryptoDormFund, and others following an announced partnership with Sheesha Finance.
