Throwback Thursday: Coinrail hack In June 2018, Korean crypto exchange Coinrail lost more than $40 million in initial coin offering (ICO) tokens, due to a hack. As reported at the time, hackers were able to get away with $19.5 million-worth of NPXS tokens, which were issued by payment project Pundi X’s ICO. They also stole $13.8 million from Aston X, $5.8 million in tokens for Dent, a mobile data ICO, and more than $1.1 million in Tron. The tokens themselves weren't stolen from the companies in question, but rather from Coinrail users.
Our Crypto Masterclass features a well-known thought leader or expert in the crypto space. Today, I focus on Guy Hirsch, U.S. managing director of eToro. In an email sent to Inside Crypto writer Rebecca Campbell, Hirsch talks about the benefits of the digital dollar project. "Although the modern-day financial system is already largely digital, and physical cash payments are quickly disappearing from everyday life, there is still a strong case for digitizing the dollar."
BitPay has launched a prepaid Mastercard for crypto users in the U.S. The BitPay Card allows users to convert their crypto into fiat, which once added to the card, can be spent anywhere Mastercard debit is accepted worldwide. Featuring an EMV chip, the prepaid card aims to offer added security and is contactless-enabled for payments. Users can use their cards online for purchases as well as withdraw money from ATMs. Users are required to download the BitPay app to use the BitPay Card, which will also show them their transaction history and manage card settings. The card supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Bitcoin Cash, and stable coins USDC, GUSD, PAX and BUSD. In a press release, Sherri Haymond, executive vice president of digital partnerships at Mastercard, said that Mastercard is "committed" to offering different financial services to consumers of a global scale. More: - In March, Uphold announced the arrival of its debit Mastercard, a multi-asset debit card giving users the option to spend crypto, national currencies, gold, and other precious metals at nearly 50 million merchants and ATMs worldwide.
- In April, Embily launched its own prepaid card, stating that it could be used anywhere that Mastercard is accepted, as well as enabling a daily ATM limit of $2,500.

CrossTower has joined the Crypto Rating Council. The crypto exchange joins 11 other industry players including Coinbase, Cumberland, Anchorage, and Genesis Global Trading. According to the CRC, its mission is to provide a "systematic U.S. securities law analytical framework for crypto assets." The CRC communicates ratings across a range of crypto assets, with the lowest CRC rating of one. This indicates that an asset has little or no characteristics that would deem it a security. A ranking of five points to characteristics that deem an asset as a security under the U.S. securities law. CROSSTOWER
