A report suggests that in the first five months of 2020, nearly $1.4 billion in crypto has been stolen. The report, from crypto intelligence company CipherTrace, indicated that the rise correlated with the coronavirus pandemic and the number of related scams that require crypto as a form of payment. According to CipherTrace, this year's crypto crime is on track to become the second-largest, following 2018's $4.5 billion in crypto losses. Of the $1.36 billion stolen, CipherTrace notes that most of this originates from a single fraud: Wotoken. The marketing scheme stole $1.09 billion in 2018 and 2019; however, it only came to light in May. Wotoken passed 715,000 users but eventually collapsed. Its alleged perpetrators are on trial in China. REUTERS
Privacy-focused internet browser Brave has seen its monthly active users pass the 15 million mark, reaching 15.4 million. The platform said that since that launch of Brave 1.0 last November, it has experienced a 50% growth. Over the past year, that figure has risen to 125%. Its daily users have also increase, jumping to 5.3 million, up from 2 million a year ago. The organization also noted significant progress with its Brave Ads program, which rewards users with Basic Attention Tokens for voluntarily watching ads from partner brands. Since launching last year, the program has seen 1,530 campaigns, an increase of 255% from the 400 campaigns reported last October. BRAVE
