A Russian hacker group named Winter Vivern has been hacking NATO emails since February, according to reports. The group exploited flaws in Zimbra endpoints. More: - Winter Vivern attacks by scanning for unpatched webmail platforms using the Acunetix tool vulnerability scanner.
- Next, the hackers send a phishing email from a compromised address.
- The targets are led to believe that the email comes from someone they know.
- These emails contain a link that exploits a security flaw tracked as CVE-2022-27926 by injecting multiple JavaScript payloads.
- The threat actors can access sensitive information on compromised webmails and monitor communications over a period of time.
- Additionally, the hackers can use the breached accounts to carry out lateral phishing attacks and further their infiltration of the target organizations.

British law agencies have seized $7.4M and arrested 290 people in a cybercrime operation. A number of the arrested individuals were conducting eBay scams. More: - The operation, named Henhouse, was conducted by the National Crime Agency in cooperation with the police.
- In addition to the $7.4M, the police authorities have seized items such as:
- BMW M5 vehicle,
- Rolex watches
- Smartphones,
- Jewelry, etc.
- On Feb. 8, three people were arrested due to their involvement with international PPE fraud. The three suspects benefitted financially by setting up a U.K. company that would receive compensation for PPE shortages.
- Six other individuals were arrested in a separate location for creating an online scheme that sold vehicles on eBay that didn't exist. The hackers convinced the victims to pay a deposit to give them a false address where they thought they could see the vehicle.
- After seizing 250 phones, police found the details of over 2,500 bank accounts suspected of being used to launder millions in 2022.

Ukrainian police have arrested a hacker group that specializes in phishing campaigns. The group created over 100 malicious websites. More: - The websites offered discounted goods as a way of convincing victims to purchase those goods online.
- Once the users put in their credit card information, hackers used it to target them with fraud campaigns.
- The campaign also used call centers to cold-call people and convince them to visit the websites.
- The number of victims from this campaign is believed to be over 10,000, located in countries such as:
- France,
- Spain,
- Czech Republic,
- Poland,
- Portugal, etc.
- The two suspected leaders of the criminal group were arrested in Ukraine, while 10 members were arrested in different European countries.
- According to Ukrainian authorities, the suspects could face up to 12 years in jail.
