 The Japanese government and the Bank of Japan (BoJ) are considering issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC), Nikkei reports. The government will outline its CBDC plan in a policy framework that will be released later this year. In February, BoJ said that it had no immediate plans to issue its own digital yen but China's efforts to develop a digital yuan have prompted the bank into action. More: - At the beginning of 2020, the BoJ partnered with the Bank of England, the Bank of Canada, the European Central Bank, the Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden), and the Swiss National Bank, to explore digital currencies.

The use of Bitcoin mixing services on the dark web has risen 2,100% in the first quarter of 2020 versus Q1 2019, according to research from Crystal Blockchain. It found that those on the darknet sent $67m worth of Bitcoin to mixing services in the first three months of 2020, up from $3m in the same period of 2019. It noted that the Bitcoin was often mixed before being sent to exchanges. This is likely the result of increased verification and verification processes, the report said. DECRYPT

The Zcash Foundation has released an updated version of FROST to reduce interaction between participants that own a single private signing key. The Flexible Round-Optimized Schnorr Threshold (FROST) signature scheme is a collaboration between the Zcash Foundation and the University of Waterloo. The new threshold scheme will help improve "threshold signature research to match the needs of Zcash users today," the foundation said. ZCASH FOUNDATION

 The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is looking into the possibility of using blockchain to track products. FDA announced a blueprint to use emerging technologies – such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), sensor technologies, and blockchain – to boost existing food tracking systems and create new ones. According to commissioner Stephen Hahn, by doing, so the FDA can ensure that it has the "safest food system in the world." DECRYPT
