The Bitcoin Cash antitrust suit alleging market manipulation by prominent crypto figures has been dismissed with prejudice. A U.S. Magistrate Judge of the Southern District of Florida ultimately found that plaintiff United American Corp. failed to provide any facts that plausibly suggested conspiracy. More: - United American Corp. initially filed its complaint against Roger Ver, founder of bitcoin.com, Jesse Powell, CEO of Kraken, and others in December 2018, claiming that the alleged parties colluded to manipulate the outcome of a Bitcoin Cash network upgrade.
- After the initial complaint was thrown out for its failure to state a claim, UAC revised the claim to suggest that Bitcoin.com significantly increased its hashing power to dilute other market participants’ voting power. No evidence was offered to support this claim.
- After judicial review, the court concluded that the new claim lacked facts necessary to demonstrate a reasonable expectation that discovery would reveal evidence of illegal agreement.
- This was a matter of first impression to U.S. antitrust courts. While the case has been dismissed, the Magistrate Judge's decision still leaves open the question of whether the "highjacking" of a cryptocurrency network violates antitrust laws.

Thailand’s central bank anticipates the testing of its CBDC by Q2 2022. The planned release is outlined in the central bank’s paper, "The Way Forward for Retail Central Bank Digital Currency in Thailand" and is currently open to public comment. More: - The Bank of Thailand (BOT) has been researching CBDCs since early 2018, following the assumption that digital currencies are "widely adopted and systemically important" in the country.
- Recently, Thailand has taken an oppositional stance on stablecoins, particularly criticizing coins backed by both local and international fiat currencies.
- BOT is currently drafting legislation to regulate stablecoins, notably omitting regulations for bitcoin and non-pegged digital currencies.
- Thailand’s development with CBDCs comes as seven other countries (Sweden, The Bahamas, France, The Philippines, Japan, Turkey, and Switzerland) begin publicly testing the concept.
