1. Bitmain released financial statements for the first time on Wednesday, confirming its intention to go public. The statements, which were the result of a KPMG audit, showed the company made $742.7 million in profit during the first half year, a nine-fold increase from a year earlier. Revenue was up tenfold during the same period to $2.8 billion. Bitmain also holds a substantial amount of bitcoin cash, a revelation that many believe contributed to the coin's more than 20 percent price increase on Wednesday. –CNBC

2. Ripple XRP temporarily passed ethereum as the second largest cryptocurrency yesterday. XRP, which has seen dramatic price swings and dips this week, was up more than 20 percent on Wednesday. While ethereum saw a jump yesterday alongside other altcoins, the coin is down more than 20 percent this month. –COIN TELEGRAPH

3. There is growing speculation that some cryptocurrency exchanges may be manipulating, or even lying about, their trade volumes. That outcry has increased in recent weeks as once-unknown exchanges continue to promote overwhelming success in the midst of market slowdowns and uncertainty. The exchange BitForex has one that critics have watched – it was once a smaller exchange living in obscurity but now boasts days with transactions that exceed $5 billion. BitForex Vice President Garret Jin said the surge is because of a transaction mining system, but some are skeptical. –BITCOINIST

4. Reveel wants to create a blockchain-based "Google glass for everything." The startup is using decentralized artificial intelligence and image recognition on the blockchain that it believes could help recognize images of all kinds. For example, the company wants to try to disrupt the shopping industry. A person using the platform could see a person wearing an item and instantly get the information needed to purchase that same garment. –FORBES
