PayPal is teaming up with stablecoin operator Paxos to offer crypto trading. CoinDesk says that PayPal plans to use Paxos' new brokerage service, Paxos Crypto Brokerage, to introduce crypto trading. The companies may announce their partnership this week, an unnamed source told CoinDesk. It's not yet known which crypto assets PayPal will offer. More: - PayPal and Venmo also plan to allow users to buy and sell crypto, CoinDesk reported last month.

The former COO at Wirecard has fled to Russia. Jan Marsalek is said to have "brought significant sums" of money into the country in the form of Bitcoin from Dubai, where the company had questionable operations, reports Handelsblatt. Employees of the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence agency, are reported to have helped Marsalek get a private house in Moscow. According to Bellingcat, an investigative journalism platform, Marsalek has boasted that he had contact with the GRU and claimed to have the formula for Novichok, a military-grade poison that was, allegedly, used by GRU to poison Sergei and Yulia Skripal in the U.K. in 2018. The Bank of Japan (BoJ) is in no rush to issue a central bank digital currency (CBDC), according to a senior researcher. Kodai Sato from the Nomura Research Institute said that financial inclusion is not a priority for the country as the number of bank accounts in Japan is already at 99% or 100% compared to other countries. According to Sato, it's important to determine the need for a CBDC in Japan and the role it would play. The CEO of Grayscale believes that the U.S. is past the "ban Bitcoin" stage and that the cryptocurrency has solid backing from policymakers. In an investor call on July 16, Barry Silbert said that he was optimistic that regulations around crypto in the U.S. would improve or at least not get any worse for the market. He believes that organizations such as the Blockchain Association and Coin Center are helping to improve relations with regulators because they are educating policymakers on the benefits the sector can bring.
