Representative Darren Soto (D-FL) reintroduced the Blockchain Technology Coordination Act (BTCA). Now submitted to the Committee of Energy and Commerce, the bill establishes a blockchain department within the Department of Congress. More: - An earlier draft of the BTCA reached the House last year, but changeovers in Congress and other difficulties in early 2021 stalled the bill.
- Soto’s team is expected to continue reintroducing crypto-related bills, including the U.S. Virtual Currency Market and Regulatory competitiveness Act and the Virtual Currency Consumer Protection Act.
- Soto plans to introduce the Digital Taxonomy Act and the Blockchain Innovation Act later this week.

BTC exchange Luno was required by British regulators to remove ads recommending bitcoin. The ads contained slogans like “If you’re seeing bitcoin on the underground, it’s time to buy.” Regulators said that the ads failed to highlight the risks associated with bitcoin. More: - The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) stated that the ads could not reappear without making it "sufficiently clear that the value of investments in bitcoin… go down as well as up."
- The ASA’s decision seems ironic in light of the British Pound sinking 5% in early 2020.
- The action against Luno comes amid increasing concerns by regulators about the risks cryptocurrencies pose to investors.
