Canadian-based crypto mining company Hive Blockchain Technologies was approved for a NASDAQ listing. The company joined Riot Blockchain and Marathon Digital Holdings as some of the only mining companies available on the NASDAQ. More: Hive has been publicly traded on Canada’s TSX.V since 2017. The company claims 100% green renewable energy in their mining process through energy-data centers in Canada, Sweden, and Iceland. Hive mines PoW cryptocurrencies like BTC and ETH, which have recently faced scrutiny for their energy consumption and environmental impact.

Frank McCourt, a former owner of the MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers, pledged $100M to develop a decentralized social media. Titled “Project Liberty,” the blockchain project utilizes a Decentralized Social Network Protocol (DSNP), so no single company can have exclusive access to a person’s data. More: $75M went to institutes at Georgetown University and Sciences Pro, while the remaining $25M will be used as incentives for building on the DSNP. Sun Basket co-founder Braxton Woodham has been enlisted in the early development of Project Liberty. McCourt’s Project Liberty is reminiscent of previous decentralized social media projects, including Voice, Mastodon, and Peepeth.

🍋Fresh Funding🍋 Amber Group, Crypto Services: $100M ⮕ The Series B funding round was led by Renaissance with participation from Tiger Global Management, DCM Venture, Coinbase and Pantera Capital, and others. More: Amber followed Ledger in becoming the second crypto company to reach unicorn status this month. The crypto services firm announced plans to use the fresh funding to expand its team and its geographic reach. Amber Group serves around 500 institutional and high net worth individuals with algorithmic trading, electronic execution, OTC trading, and lending services. Securitize, Tokenized Equity: $48M ⮕ The Series B funding round was co-led by Morgan Stanley and Blockchain Capital with participation from Ava Labs, IDC Ventures, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Borderless Capital, Ripio, and Ripple.  More: Securitize is an SEC authorized broker-dealer allowing startups to raise capital through security tokens.
