Huobi Global announced that it would cease all mainland China exchange accounts. New user registration was immediately disabled on Friday following the PBoC’s guidance shutting down crypto activities. More: - Huobi Group co-founder Du Jun stated that all accounts will be closed permanently by the start of 2022.
- It is the first major crypto exchange to take action beyond shutting down new user registration.
- Huobi’s HT exchange token dropped 15% following the PBoC announcement and has since lost another 27%.

Crypto exchange Bitfinex paid a record 7,676 ETH ($23.5M) in gas fees for a $100,000 transaction. The transaction was to DeFi exchange DeversiFi, which stated that no customer funds were affected by the transaction fee. More: - Bitfinex has yet to release a statement on the transaction. However, some believe the outrageously high fee was due to a vulnerability exploit.
- Even without the possibility of an exploit, Bitfinex’s transaction has proved to be an incredibly costly mistake.
- According to the original discoverer of the transaction, it seems likely that the miner who mined the $23M block hasn’t yet realized what happened.

DEX activity on Uniswap (UNI) and dYdX (DYDX) has exploded following China’s recent crypto advisory. The rise in DEX use in China comes from the exchange’s ability to offer permissionless trading without an intermediary. Ethereum developer Virgil Griffith pleaded guilty in New York court for violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Virgil was initially arrested in Nov. 2019 after speaking at a blockchain conference in Pyongyang, North Korea. More: - According to the New York district court, Griffth violated the act by providing highly technical information to North Korea that could help the country launder money.
- Griffith additionally was charged with entering North Korea in April 2019 without approval from the U.S.
- Despite Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin's outward disapproval of the decision, a petition to release Griffth has only accumulated a bit over 500 signatures in two years.
