SEC v. XRP Update: The court denied Ripple Labs’ request to discover crypto trading records of SEC employees. The NY district court held that individual trading decisions were not relevant issues to the case. More: Ripple’s motion was focused on SEC employees’ transactions of BTC, ETH, and XRP. In addition to a lack of relevance, the court was also concerned about violating the privacy of SEC employees. The request came after the SEC revealed that it didn’t have policies related to trading crypto before the Ripple lawsuit.

Invesco and Galaxy Digital announced a partnership to build crypto ETFs. The ETFs are set to cover various physically-backed cryptocurrencies and be listed on U.S. exchanges. More: Invesco ETFs have doubled in AUM over the past three years, reaching a total of $471B. Invesco previously launched the Invesco Elwood Global Blockchain Equity UCITS ETF with over $1B in AUM back in 2019, but sold it to CoinShares this July. The partnered products are expected to publicly list several different crypto ETFs despite the SEC having yet to approve of any to date.

The Dfinity Foundation announced plans to integrate the Internet Computer (ICP) with Bitcoin (BTC). The upgrade will enable smart contract functionality and DeFi features for the Bitcoin network. More: The anticipated upgrade will bring Turing-complete smart contract functionality comparable to Ethereum (ETH). The Network Nervous System (NNS) proposal was passed last week with an overwhelming 96.55% approval.  Internet Computer nodes will directly consume Bitcoin blocks to maintain the availability of Bitcoin smart contracts with Bitcoin addresses. The upgrade is expected to be released by the end of this year.

Kava Labs launched a $185M fund to accelerate project development on the Kava network. The Ignition Fund is expected to finance several Kava-based DeFi protocols in the upcoming weeks. More: Kava is a Cosmos-based smart contracts network and cross-chain liquidity provider for DeFi projects. The Kava network recently surpassed $2B in AUM, making it one of the largest Cosmos-based projects alongside Terra (LUNA) and ThorChain (RUNE). Robinhood announced crypto transfers for Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Dogecoin (DOGE). The upcoming feature is expected to be available to all users sometime in early 2022. More: The newly added transfer functionality will act as a wallet but is not expected to be non-custodial.  Robinhood Crypto COO Christine Brown told Mainnet 2021 conference-goers that users who sign up for the waitlist could receive access as early as this October.
