Marathon Digital and other crypto mining stocks jumped as Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC) reached another ATH. Marathon Digital exploded nearly 20% as Bitcoin (BTC) moved to $67,600, and ETH hit $4,822.36. More: - Riot Blockchain had the second-largest jump at 17%, and Bit Digital, Bitfarms Hive Blockchain, and Hut 8 also saw double-digit percentage gains.
- Crypto mining stocks strongly correlate to ETH and BTC prices because they hold the cryptocurrencies on their balance sheet.

The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Controls (OFAC) sanctioned Latvia-based crypto exchange Chatex. Chatex is the latest crypto exchange to receive sanctions from the U.S. for providing the infrastructure for ransomware payments. More: - According to a press release, over half of the transactions on Chatex were directly related to ransomware, darknet markets and high-risk exchanges.
- The Treasury Department claimed that the Telegram-operated exchange was directly involved with previously sanctioned crypto exchange Suex.
- Three exchange operators have received sanctions from the U.S. Treasury to date: IZBITS OU, Hightrade Finance Ltd., and now Chatax.

Brazil-based crypto exchange Mercado Bitcoin announced that it would issue two renewable energy tokens. The tokens are a joint effort between the exchange and Brazil’s Comerc energy provider. More: - One token, expected to be released in December, will provide crypto payments for Comerc customers generating renewable energy through Sou Vagalume.
- Similar to Brazil’s distributed solar generation grants, the tokens are expected to give renewable energy “miners” up to 20% of their energy bill for their efforts.
- The second token will be used as a certificate of renewable energy consumption, backed by the International REC Standard.

Austria unveiled a new tax framework for digital assets, taxing them similarly to stocks and bonds. The new framework is the first of its kind among EU member states. More: - 27.5% capital gains taxes on cryptocurrencies is expected by March 2022.
- Crypto purchased before March 2022 will not be subject to tax liability.
