The opposing force: Binance has seen $3.4 billion in fresh stablecoin net inflows this month following $3 billion in March, Hyperliquid’s largest traders are at their most aggressively net-long since early March, and 47 consecutive days of negative funding rates continue to pay longs. FXPro analyst Alex Kuptsikevich says the pullback is consistent with the broader uptrend that began in late March and expects the wall to break once oil-driven macro pressure clears.
Trump called off a planned trip by Vance and Rubio to Pakistan for a new round of U.S.–Iran peace talks over the weekend, sending Brent crude to $107 — the highest level since the ceasefire began in early April and above the threshold that analysts identify as the breakeven for material Bitcoin headwind. Oil rising alongside yields and widening volatility spreads is the tighter-financial-conditions signal that has capped every BTC rally attempt in April. The EU separately unveiled its largest-ever Russia sanctions package, with an explicit escalation of crypto sanctions-evasion measures, adding a new regulatory dimension to the week. A developer wants to fork Bitcoin and reassign Satoshi’s coins. The community says no.
Paul Sztorc — a developer who has been trying to overhaul Bitcoin’s architecture since 2015 — has proposed an eCash hard fork launching in August: a copy of Bitcoin’s code that would give BTC holders equivalent tokens, add Drivechains, and critically, redistribute Satoshi Nakamoto’s estimated 1.1 million dormant coins to other addresses. The Bitcoin community is calling it theft. The proposal arrives as a separate analysis warns that quantum computers could theoretically access ~1.7 million BTC in early wallets, but that even a worst-case sell-off would be large rather than catastrophic given how much volume the market has historically absorbed. Both debates circle the same fault line: who controls bitcoin that was mined but never moved?
