The move is broad: ETH is up nearly 5%, XRP nearly 6%, bitcoin ETFs pulled in $731 million on Thursday, their best single day since January. The August jobs report lands at 8:30am this morning. Six years of data says NFP has almost no predictive power for bitcoin’s day-to-day price — but this time, Treasury yields matter more than usual, and any yield move from the data will land on an already-sensitive market heading into the September 16 Fed decision. The August jobs report drops at 8:30am, and everyone will be watching it as a potential input to the September 16 Fed rate decision. But CoinDesk looked at every NFP release since January 2020 — all 79 of them — and found that bitcoin moved an average of just 2.1% on those days, indistinguishable from its average on any other day. Across those releases, BTC closed higher 39 times and lower 40 times: a literal coin flip. The one exception to watch this time: if NFP triggers a big move in Treasury yields, bitcoin may follow — because yields, not jobs, have been the central variable all week. Consensus expects 56,000 jobs added and the unemployment rate ticking up to 4.2%, which would support expectations of a rate cut rather than a hike. Bitcoin cleared $81,309 overnight — the exact level of the 50-week moving average that Galaxy Research identified as the key signal separating completed bear markets from active ones — before easing slightly to around $81,060 by Friday morning. The rally is broad and deep: ETH added 4.92%, XRP 5.78%, SOL 3.50%, and $318.6 million in positions were liquidated. Privacy coins outpaced everything without a clear catalyst: Zcash jumped 16.55% to nearly $967, Dash rose 19.24%, and Monero gained 5.89%. Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $731 million on Thursday, their best single day since January. One bitcoin now buys more than 18 ounces of gold — the highest ratio since January. OpenAI disclosed this week that its new Astra model can autonomously find previously unknown software flaws and turn them into working attacks without human guidance — a capability that until recently belonged only to elite hacking teams. Days later it pledged $1 billion in subsidized access to its Daybreak cybersecurity platform for defenders, covering water systems, power grids, banks, governments and open-source maintainers. Crypto exchanges and protocols are not explicitly named in the priority list — but open-source blockchain software fits the open-source maintainer category, which is significant given recent events: a BTCPay Server exploit drained Lightning node funds in August, Core Lightning told operators to disconnect after AI-generated bug reports uncovered real flaws, and Coldcard shipped emergency firmware after a $114 million theft. Thirty-six crypto companies including Coinbase and BitGo had already written to AI labs demanding the same tools attackers were already using against them.
