Kinfo January Edition: More ways to use Kin in Kik, new partnerships, and more

Image

Welcome to Kinfo, your monthly digest of all things Kin!

Happy New Year! 2018 ended strong for Kin. In December, Kik expanded its Kin-powered features, releasing chat themes to 100 percent of Android users. Kik also introduced admin tipping, which allows users to reward public group administrators for the service they provide to group members. These include sharing relevant content, keeping the conversation going, and removing spam or bad actors from groups.

Our standalone squad is exploring the ability to move Kin between apps, and it released an ecosystem discovery mechanism in Kinit as the first step in linking the ecosystem. They are also working on a new app, Tippic, which will let users tip photographers for their content. The app will help us understand tipping functionality in the Kin Ecosystem, and it will help us develop features that will enable other ecosystem apps to integrate seamless tipping features.

December 6, 2018

Kik introduced admin tipping to enable its social economy and give users a way to reward public group administrators for the work they do to keep conversations fun, engaging, and safe. The feature is currently available to Android users in over 1,000 groups, and Kik will continue scaling the experience to more users over the coming months.

An ecosystem discovery mechanism is now available in Kinit

December 11, 2018

In the first step to allowing users to move Kin between apps in the Kin Ecosystem, we've introduced a discovery mechanism in Kinit to let users find and explore other apps that offer Kin-powered experiences. This feature is now available on both Android and iOS.
