This week in a nutshell
- Bakkt announced that it will be launching options contracts for its bitcoin futures beginning December 9th.
- Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, said that China needs to seize the opportunity of blockchain technology. Xi, said, “We must clarify the main direction [of the technology], increase investment, focus on a number of key core technologies, and accelerate the development of blockchain technology and industrial innovation.”
- Bakkt futures hit an all-time high of $4.8 million in daily traded volume on October 23rd.
- The president of Crypto Capital, Ivan Manuel Molina Lee, was arrested by Polish authorities because he was allegedly part of an international drug cartel that laundered money through Bitfinex. Crypto Capital provided banking services to several well-known cryptocurrency exchanges including Binance, Kraken, and BitMEX.
- Opera for Android (version 54) introduced support for Bitcoin and Tron to its built-in cryptocurrency wallet.
- The cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex announced that it would be moving its headquarters from Malta to Lichtenstein, and changing the name of its an international trading platform from Bittrex International to Bittrex Global beginning October 29th.
- Binance has launched a fiat to crypto onramp/offramp by way of the Nigerian Naira (NGN). Users can now deposit Nigerian Naira and buy BUSD, BNB, and BTC.
- On October 24th, Binance announced and launched a Dogecoin/USDT trading pair.
