Ethereum 2.0 is still on track for a July launch, says Vitalik Buterin. During CoinDesk's online Consensus: Distributed conference, the co-founder of Ethereum spoke about the progress being made on Eth 2.0, which will change the consensus mechanism to proof-of-stake (PoS), which will replace its proof-of-work (PoW) system. In particular, he said that the testnet for the protocol upgrade was already live and that the first phases had started a week ago. Ethereum 2.0., often known as Serenity, has been subject to delays. It was originally expected in January 2020; however, this was rescheduled for Q2 2020 and then Q3 2020. Developers have penned in a July target, with July 30 seen as the likely date to coincide with Ethereum's fifth birthday. COINDESK | |
